WELCOME TO ACRO Ghana

ACRO Ghana (Association for the Care and Rehabilitation of Offenders) operates as an independent, registered NGO based in Dormaa Ahenkro, an agricultural community in Ghana's Brong Region. The organization also maintains branches in Kukuo near Tamale (Northern Region), Domenase and Abora Obohen (Central Region), Madina (Greater Accra Region), and Dodowa (Eastern Region). Established in 2004, ACRO Ghana received certification to function as a social institution a year later and is authorized to conduct business under Sections 27 & 28 of the Companies Code of 1963, with its own tax identification number.

Striving for a safer society where inclusion prevails and human rights are protected, ACRO Ghana prioritizes crime prevention through combating social exclusion and reintegrating offenders. The group examines the potential for alternatives to incarceration and considers the judiciary’s role in enforcing penal sanctions, noting that imprisonment alone has not facilitated social rehabilitation. Serious concerns such as rising crime rates, particularly among youth—overcrowded prisons, and growing recidivism underscore the need to explore different measures that avoid depriving individuals of their liberty, especially within their region.

ACRO Ghana addresses these challenges through social inclusion initiatives, with an emphasis on sports and football programs designed to foster peace, gender equality, children’s literacy development, sanitation, environmental stewardship, and poverty reduction.
